Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, is set to depart Dhaka early Monday for New York to attend the UNGA. He is expected to deliver Bangladesh’s official address on the Rohingya crisis and participate in several bilateral and multilateral meetings. He will return on 2 October.
This year’s Bangladesh delegation reflects rare political unity, with members from across major political parties joining the mission:
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, General Secretary of BNP, Humayun Kabir, BNP Senior Leader, Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Jamaat-e-Islami Leader, Akhtar Hossen, National Citizen Party (NCP) Leader, Mohammad Nakibur Rahman, Jamaat leader from the USA, Dr. Tasnim Jara, Senior Joint Secretary, representing the government.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain confirmed that the Chief Adviser will present Bangladesh’s stance on the Rohingya crisis at the UNGA.
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder welcomed the inclusion of opposition leaders in the official delegation, calling it a demonstration of wisdom and unity:
“This participation offers an opportunity to bridge political gaps and strengthen understanding, while sending a strong message of national unity to the world.”
Analysts note that the conference comes at a critical time as Bangladesh prepares for a new elected government in February. The event is seen as a chance to reaffirm Bangladesh’s leadership on the Rohingya issue and press the international community for justice, repatriation, and the protection of minorities in Myanmar.
Azad added that physical presence at such global forums is essential; “UNGA 2025 will be remembered as a moment where Bangladesh showcased unity and commitment to resolving the Rohingya crisis.”
Rohingya Vision News will continue coverage of the UNGA and the historic Rohingya conference on September 30.
